Web Design & Development

Web design and development that puts your brand in front of your digital audience

Silverback® is a web design agency in Guildford, Surrey, and yes, we're dab hands at designing, building, hosting and maintaining responsive websites. What makes us different is that we bespoke-build everything in your chosen platform, so you never get a one-size-fits-all approach.

Webflow, Astro, Sanity, NextJS: we'll build in whatever suits how you actually work, not whatever we happen to have a template lying around for. And you'll never be locked into something you can't edit yourself.

You want to be seen. Your website is the always-open window that lets your audience experience your brand, so we keep it consistent, tip-top and bang up-to-date, and leave you with an exquisite site to behold and be mighty proud of. No compromise.

Web Design

There's nothing that gets us going more than a site that looks superb and works even harder. Every page gets designed around your brand and the people you're trying to reach, so you end up with something that feels like you rather than a slightly recoloured version of everyone else. Have a look at what we built for Steven Bartlett, and Alex Brychta.

Web Development

We build responsive, accessible sites that behave themselves on whatever device someone pulls out of their pocket. Everything gets tested on real hardware before your customers ever see it, because emulators miss things that real phones don't. The Experience Guildford site is a good example of one that had to look the part and work hard at the same time, built in React as a web app and mobile app.

Webflow design and development

We're a Webflow Certified Partner and have built 25+ Webflow sites. If yours is already built and misbehaving, or you're weighing Webflow up against something else, we've spent enough time in there to tell you honestly whether it suits what you're doing. Buy Women Built is one we laid the digital foundations for from scratch.

Ecommerce Websites

Selling online is its own beast. We build stores where the checkout gets out of the customer's way, the product pages do some actual selling, and your team can add new stock themselves on a Tuesday afternoon. Check out this site we created for Sean Evelegh, which features a Webflow ecommerce solution.

Content Management Systems

You should be able to change your own website. We build on CMS platforms your team can genuinely use, then sit down and show you the ropes, so fixing a typo takes ninety seconds rather than an email and a three-day wait. The Fishers Farm Park website contains a robust Webflow CMS that gives control over attractions, events and much more.

Website Hosting and Maintenance

Launch day is the starting gun. We host, monitor and look after sites long after they go live: security patches, performance checks and a real human on the end of the phone when something looks a bit off. Surrey Swimming Pools have been with us well past launch, and once a site is settled we can pick up the digital marketing side too.

Pre and post go-live checks

Every site gets run through the same checklist before it goes anywhere near the public, because launch day is where things get missed. We check redirects, canonical tags, meta titles and descriptions, schema markup, alt text, Open Graph tags, robots.txt and llms.txt, then run a full site audit alongside Lighthouse and AXE for performance and accessibility.

Then the practical stuff. Every form gets tested and pointed at the right people at your end. Every link gets checked. Analytics and Search Console get connected so you can see what's happening from day one. Favicon, webclip, 404 page, cookie banner and privacy policy all get sorted, and we put reCAPTCHA on the site so the spam bots find somewhere else to be.

After launch we watch Search Console for crawl errors and keep an eye on the things that only show up once real people start using the site. If you'd rather see how we work before any of this, our process is worth a look.

Your web design & development questions answered

The things people usually ask us before starting a website project. If yours isn't here, ask us directly and we'll give you a straight answer.

Make an enquiry
FAQ 1 What platform will you build my website on?

Whichever one suits you. We work across Webflow, Astro, Sanity, Next.js, Wordpress and more, and the recommendation comes down to who needs to edit the site day to day and where you're taking the business. We'll explain our reasoning before you commit to anything.

FAQ 2 Can you work with our existing brand guidelines?

Of course. Plenty of the sites we build sit inside a brand someone else created, and we'll work to your guidelines rather than redesigning things because we might have done it differently. Send us what you've got and we'll tell you whether there's enough there to build from, or whether a few gaps need filling first.

FAQ 3 Will I be able to update the website myself?

During the proposal and Discovery phases of the project, we will talk to you in detail about your needs for editing the website yourself and whether or not you need a CMS, almost all of our websites are built with one, that allow you and your team to edit the website yourselves without having to rely on a developer for every small change.

FAQ 4 Do you work with businesses outside Surrey?

Often. We're based at Whipley Manor Farm near Guildford and work with brands across the UK. Most projects run happily over calls and shared files, and if you'd rather do it face to face, the kettle's always on.

FAQ 5 What happens after the site launches?

We host, maintain and support the sites we build. That covers updates, security, performance monitoring and someone to call when you need them. We love to build ongoing relationships and plenty of our clients have stayed with us for years past launch.

FAQ 6 Do you redesign existing websites?

Regularly. Sometimes a site needs rebuilding from the ground up and sometimes it needs a few fixes on the same platform to get it up to scratch. We'll audit what you've got and tell you which one you're looking at, even when the answer is the cheaper one.
