Creating for the Creators – a story about FlightStory

Share:

Working with Silverback on the FlightStory rebrand was an absolute masterclass in collaboration. From brief to launch, they worked at speed, with precision, and handled every challenge we threw their way. Tight timelines? No problem. Last-minute refinements? Sorted. But beyond their technical expertise, what really made this partnership work was their approach.

When Steven Bartlett’s team contacts The Troop about another project; it makes our beating gorilla hearts skip a big ol’ badoom. Having collaborated with the Dragons’ Den star and Diary of a CEO podcaster on his personal brand and website, it seemed only natural that the creative partnership should continue.

What exciting venture might be lying on the horizon this time? What lightning strike of inspiration would be about to cut through and disrupt which sector's cloudy status quo? Sitting comfortably? Let’s tell you a little story about, ahem, Flight Story.

Following the merger of Bartlett’s Flight Studio and Flight Fund, the newly established global media and investment superbrand needed a remix. They needed somewhere to press their proverbial records, a platform to showcase their roster of changemaking-superstar podcast personalities, and a place to transform the way podcasts are created and ultimately consumed.

Welcome to FlightStory.

Design

Designed in-house at FlightStory by Senior brand Design Lead Imogen Crew, Silverback® Studios was the go-to when it came to a website build team ready for the challenge ahead. A platform designed to put the spotlight on Steven’s media and investment portfolio, the fresh, alternative, and bold use of primary colours alludes to a sense of the solid foundations and trust necessary to develop and grow brands into behemoths. These are the essential building blocks that blend and merge to produce the broad spectrum of investment and media solutions that FlightStory proffers to potential investors, innovators, founders, and free-thinkers.

Design and build-wise, this is a website in stark contrast to the traditional and, at times, lifeless online placeholders of fellow investment companies. FlightStory’s aesthetic and functionality are inspired by the fearless nature of groundbreaking records and artists from the music industry that have sought to change their surroundings. A fearlessness that is so naturally aligned with the disruptive nature and impact of Steven’s brands…

Develop

To enable the dream, we used a range of custom interactions and animations powered by GSAP. This created a unique look and feel, enhancing the user experience and only further elevating the brand's disruptor-esque essence.

Podcaster, relationship expert, and FlightStory artist Paul Carrick Brunson described the former brand Flight Studio perfectly when he said, “Whenever people ask me about @flightstudio, I always say it’s the modern Def Jam.”  Inspired by Paul’s “record label for storytellers” analogy, it was essential the visual identity and subsequent website echoed the brand’s vibe – championing talent and founders like a label champions its artists.

The record label aesthetic was carried through the website with some particularly special bespoke record box sliders that allowed users to literally dig the crates of all the latest and greatest podcasts and artists affiliated with FlightStory.

Additionally, the scale of the website also expands with the size of the viewport to be fully responsive even on massive screens without having gutters. Wowzers.

“Jay wasn’t just a developer; he became an extension of our team. He listened, adapted, and found solutions with a level of care and commitment that’s rare to find. Communication was seamless; whether it was quick turnarounds on feedback or tackling unexpected challenges, he always delivered with a problem-solving mindset. His ability to balance efficiency with attention to detail meant we could push creative boundaries, knowing he had the expertise to bring it all to life.” Imogen Crew, FlightStory, Senior Brand Design Lead.

A fun and challenging project, there’s nothing quite like being put to the test to help the Troop grow, gain and get ready to go again.

Honestly? We love a challenge; it brings skill sets together, broadens perspectives, and gives us the opportunity to truly deliver on a brief and produce remarkable, memorable websites that matter. They’re places where brand stories take flight.
